PAKTIKA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Soldiers from Task Force Ghazni hosted a dedication ceremony for Camp Eggleston, Forward Operating Base Sharana, Aug 7.
The camp was dedicated in honor of Staff Sgt. Brandon Eggleston, a special forces soldier who was killed earlier this year while attached to the task force.
“The dedication and naming of this camp serves as a memorial in a time of war to a soldier who gave the last full measure,” said Lt. Col. John Highfill, TF Ghazni commander.
The new camp will be home to task force soldiers deployed to eastern Paktika province in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. It currently supports various Special Operations Forces teams throughout the region.
During his speech, Highfill expressed the importance of honoring and remembering Staff Sgt. Eggleston and said his memory will live in every phone call, every email and every conversation in which Camp Eggleston is mentioned.
“We remember not just with a name on a sign, but with the knowledge in our hearts of the man who ran a good race that made a difference,” said Highfill.
