HAIFA, Israel – The guided-missile destroyer USS Laboon (DDG 58) held a change of command ceremony during a port visit to Haifa, Israel, Aug. 23.
During the ceremony, Cmdr. Christopher F. Cigna relieved Cmdr. James L. Storm as commanding officer.
Cmdr. Storm assumed command of Laboon in March 2011 and spent his time preparing the crew and ship for their deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
“This was one of the most professionally rewarding experiences of my career,” said Cmdr. Storm. “I am continuously impressed and inspired by the motivation, dedication and personal sacrifices that Team Laboon and our families’ exhibit daily in order to complete the mission. It has been an honor and privilege to be part of this phenomenal team.”
Cmdr. Storm will continue his career as the executive assistant to Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic.
Cmdr. Cigna comes to Laboon after serving as the flag secretary and deputy executive assistant to Commander, U.S. Joint Forces Command.
“It’s my great honor and privilege to join this amazing team, and it’s particularly exciting to be here for Laboon’s maiden deployment,” said Cigna. “I look forward to all that we’ll accomplish together in the days to come.”
Laboon, homeported out of Norfolk, Va., is on a scheduled deployment in support of theater security cooperation and maritime security operation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
