Mississippi National Guard executes response to damaged levee

    MCCOMB, MISSISSIPPI, UNITED STATES

    08.30.2012

Story by Sgt. 1st Class Bill Valentine

    102d Public Affairs Detachment

McCOMB, Miss. - Officials in Tangipahoa Parish, La., fear that a damaged levee in Percy Quinn State Park located outside McComb, Miss., has placed people in "imminent danger" due to an abundance of water deposited from Hurricane Isaac.

Members of the 890th Engineer Battalion, 251st Engineer Company, Mississippi Department of Transportation, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol have responded to a Mississippi Emergency Management Agency notification of an “imminent failure” of a failing dam near the state border in McComb, Miss. State officials fear that the water from the dam would flow into rivers swollen from the effects of Hurricane Isaac. The rising water would affect homes in the surrounding area and possibly traffic on Interstate 55.
