DENVER - Julie Harmon, Defense Contract Management Agency Lockheed Martin Denver software engineer, was presented the League of United Latin American Citizens Excellence in Service Award at the league’s recent convention in Orlando, Fla. The award was presented during a reception honoring DOD military and civilian employees.
Margaret Moran, National LULAC president, presided over the ceremony and congratulated Harmon as an exemplary DOD employee who was cited as exemplifying “the values of the Department of Defense and DCMA as a leader, mentor and public servant.”
“I am deeply honored to have been selected as the recipient of an excellence in service award,” Harmon stated. “The experience was extremely humbling and exciting to receive the award amongst the League of United Latin American Citizens. As a Latina, it made this award very special for me.”
Harmon is an Army veteran and has been with DCMA since 2004. She started her career as a Student Career Experience Program intern while attending school as a non-traditional computer science student at the University of Colorado. She now directs a team of seven computer engineers and software specialists to conduct software surveillance on the $2 billion Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program. In addition to this leadership role, Harmon has also served as the contract management office’s Keystone Program coordinator.
Her accomplishments have resulted in recognition from the agency at various levels, including praise during the most recent Mission Review Team visit which highlighted the EELV program as a “Bright Spot.” In addition, Harmon was recognized as the 2010 DCMA Mentor of the Year, an acknowledgment of her work to recruit, retain, and develop the careers of numerous individuals in the agency.
Outside of the office, Harmon is also active. She was recently cited for her community service in running a holiday gift program for disadvantaged elementary school students. The program conducts an annual toy drive and participants actually visit with children over the holidays. Harmon initiated the program in 2007 and continues to be active in it, advising subsequent leadership.
“Julie is an exceptional individual, and we are extremely fortunate to have her as part of DCMA Lockheed Martin Denver,” said Ken Hall, DCMA LM Denver deputy director. Hall was able to accompany Harmon to the award ceremony and said the award “is a fitting recognition of Julie’s outstanding achievements.”
