MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. – The men’s varsity basketball team started off the season aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., Sept. 12.
A total of 15 players will make up the team with only a few returning from last year.
“It’s going to be hard for a while,” said Lance Cpl. Kenny Blackwell, a San Diego, native, and a former player who is helping the team prepare. “Once the team learns and practices, hopefully they will be able to take home a championship.”
The team worked on plays and three-point shots. They plan to practice twice a week throughout the season, as well as playing games.
“They look good,” said Gunnery Sgt. Derrick Love, the head coach and a Chicago native. “They are only learning simple plays now, but they will progress.”
The varsity team aboard the air station will be traveling to places such as Las Vegas for games throughout the season. The Miramar men’s varsity basketball team won championship titles in the past and is reaching for the same accomplishments this year.
