MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Sergeant Maj. Antonio N. Vizcarrondo, outgoing sergeant major, 1st Marine Logistics Group, transferred authority to the incoming sergeant major, Sgt. Maj. Richard D. Thresher, during a relief and appointment ceremony here, Sept. 21.

Vizcarrondo, a native of Lynn, Mass., is scheduled to become the new senior enlisted advisor of the Defense Information Systems Agency at Fort George G. Meade, Md.

“It was a great honor over the last 14 months to serve side-by-side with (Vizcarrondo),” said Brig. Gen. John J. Broadmeadow, commanding general, 1st Marine Logistics Group, “I know you will step into the joint community continuing to lead Marines and sailors but now soldiers and airmen as well.”

Vizcarrondo has served as the sergeant major of 1st MLG since January 2010 and deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

“To the Marines and sailors I deployed to Afghanistan with, you are inspirational, you are phenomenal, continue to do the great things you are doing,” said Vizcarrondo.

Thresher, a native of Arlington, Texas, recently served as the sergeant major of Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division and sergeant major of Marine Corps Base Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan.

“(Thresher), I am looking forward to working with you,” said Brig. Gen. Broadmeadow. “You come here with a great reputation.”

Thresher made sure the Marines present knew he would continue to hold them to a high standard.

“All I ever want to do is lead Marines,” said Thresher, “I’m ready to go to work, sir.”
