WASHINGTON - A native of Fresco, Ohio, was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Oct. 1.
Staff Sgt. Justin M. Wright was promoted to his current rank in a ceremony held at Marine Barracks Washington. Wright enlisted in the Corps October 2004 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. He currently serves as the platoon sergeant for the logistics section at the Barracks.
Staff sergeant is the first rank of the staff-noncommissioned officer ranks in the Marine Corps, and sixth enlisted rank.
“It’s a great honor to earn the rank of staff sergeant, and it comes with high responsibility,” Wright said. “It was my humble beginnings in Fresno that taught me to keep pushing forward. It was with the help of teachers, friends and family back in Fresno that I am able to be a success today.”
Throughout his career Wright has earned a combat action ribbon, a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and three Good Conduct Medals, among other awards.
Wright said he is excited to pin on the first staff NCO enlisted rank in the Corps and live up to the legacy of those who have come before him.
“I would like to personally thank my parents and those senior leaders who are my mentors. They took the time to properly lead me on the right path and I wouldn’t be the Marine I am today without them,” Wright said.
