FORT HOOD, Texas - Bodybuilders and fitness buffs competed at the 2012 Phantom Warrior Bodybuilding and Figure Classic hosted at Club Hood Sept 22.
The classic is the first time that Fort Hood has hosted a local bodybuilding tournament on the installation.
“We haven’t had a bodybuilding competition here at Fort Hood in a while,” Command Sgt. Maj. Woody Carter, command sergeant major of 62nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, said. “Hopefully, after this one, there will be many more.”
Professional bodybuilder Michael Sheppard served as head judge and gave a guest performance.
“We’ve got a good crowd here tonight,” Sheppard said. “We had a large group of competitors, and the crowd showed a lot of support for their friends and family competing.”
Eighteen men and seven women competed in seven different categories during the competition.
Brandi Whitman won in the open women bodybuilding category. In the women’s figure, Jennifer Wolfe won in the below-5’2” category, while Nikki Alvarado-Hobbs won in the over-5’2” category. Alvarado-Hobbs continued on to win best overall for women and received the grand prize, a classic long sword.
“The sword is supposed to symbolize the power and strength that Conan the Barbarian represents,” Carter said.
In the lightweight category, Andre Mcshan took first place and was a close runner-up to win best overall for men. Joaquin Chavez won the middleweight category. Stephen Sykes Jr. won at light-heavyweight and went on to win best overall for men and received his own long sword. Jason Fox took first place in the heavyweight category.
