    CAMP MABRY, Texas– On Oct. 22, Samuel “Lee” Henry, a son of Asheville resident Emma Lee Higdon Henry and the late Col. Frank L. “Nink” Henry, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in the 36th Infantry Division, Texas Army National Guard.

    Brig. Gen. Henry will serve as the assistant division commander-Maneuver for the 36th Inf. Div. and its 14,000 soldiers.

    “I have been blessed with this opportunity and look forward to continuing my service to the nation and the great state of Texas,” Brig. Gen. Henry said. “The soldiers of the 36th Inf. Div. have always been ready, willing, and able to answer their nation’s call and I am excited to help lead this historic unit into the future.”

    Brig. Gen. Henry, a resident of Austin, Texas, is no stranger to the 36th Inf. Div. having served in numerous key positions, most notably, as commander of the 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, which provided Base Defense Operations at Victory Complex in Baghdad from January to August 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

    Brig. Gen. Henry is married to Tricia Henry and they have three children; oldest son Brandonn of Granbury, Texas, son Greyson and daughter Meghan, both of whom reside in Austin, Texas.

    Brig. Gen. Henry is the son of Emma Lee Higdon Henry of Asheville and the late Colonel Frank L. “Nink” Henry of Franklin. He is the grandson of Edith Higdon Wallas and Joseph Higdon, Sr., Catherine Franks Henry and Frank L. Henry, Jr., great grandson of Eloise Franks Potts, (first woman mayor of Franklin) as well as Carrie and Frank L. Henry, Sr.

    Brig. Gen. Henry received his U.S. Army commission in May 1983 from the ROTC program at Texas A&M University.
