TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. - Every year the president proclaims November to be Military Family Month. The month is used to honor the families of our military members for their sacrifices in supporting their service members.
This year is the 19th annual celebration of military families. Along with the presidential proclamation, Gen. James F. Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corps, sent a letter out thanking Marine families for consistently demonstrating strength and devotion through service and sacrifice.
“Bonnie and I commend the continued fidelity of the Marine Corps families stationed throughout the world and pause to recognize their patriotism and dedication,” Amos said. “Thank you for all you do.”
First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden's Joining Forces initiative encouraged American businesses to give service members and their families support by giving them jobs.
“We each have a solemn duty to serve our Armed Forces and their families as well as they serve us,” Obama wrote.
Last year businesses were challenged to hire 100,000 veterans or military spouses by the end of 2013. The mark has already been exceeded with the hiring of over 125,000 veterans and military spouses.
The proclamation stressed support from the American public to the families of service members.
There are multiple programs available at the Combat Center that aid the families of Marines and sailors.
Programs with Marine Corps Family Team Building, like Lifestyles, Insights, Networking, Knowledge and Skills and the Prevention and Relation Enhancement Program are aimed towards military spouses to help during deployments and times of hardship.
Along with these programs the president wants the nation to throw in behind these families.
