WASHINGTON - A native of Warwick, N.Y. assumed command of Company B at Marine Barracks Washington D.C. Nov. 19.

Capt. Nicholas Schroback, Company B commander, assumed command in a ceremony at the oldest post of the Corps. Co. B is comprised of approximately 150 infantry Marines and is home to the United States Marine Corps Body Bearers, who conduct funerals and transfers for fallen Marines in and around the national capital region.

“I am incredibly honored and privileged to be entrusted with the opportunity to lead this company for the next year,” Schroback said.

Schroback earned a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in Boston and was commissioned in the Marine Corps in May 2007. He attended The Basic School at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., before being assigned to Marine Barracks Washington D.C. in September 2010. Throughout his career, Schroback has earned a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and was the winner of the 2011 Commander’s Cup at the Barracks.

“I really miss Warwick and look forward to coming home for the holidays, but in the meantime I’m going to look after my Marines,” Schroback said.

Barracks Marines support ceremonial and security missions in the nation’s capital. Each year, the Marines support more than 30 parades and hundreds of ceremonies and functions to include funerals and sporting events across the country and globe while maintaining proficiency in their respective military occupational specialties and meeting their annual Marine Corps training requirements.
