NAPLES, Italy. Today Vice Admiral Rinaldo Veri, Commander Allied Maritime Command Naples was awarded the NATO Meritorious Service Medal for distinguished service while assigned on NATO duties, by Commander Admiral Allied Joint Force Command Naples Admiral Bruce W. Clingan.
The motivation was " Rinaldo Veri has upheld the finest tradition of the Alliance by exhibiting outstanding leadership and through an exceptional contribution which has brought great credit on himself and earned the respect and gratitude o f everyone represented by the Alliance."
The NATO Meritorious Service Medal was first awarded in 2003 to commend staff whose personal initiative and dedication went beyond their duty to make a difference both to their colleagues, and to NATO as an organization. When assessing nominations for the award, there are several criteria take in to consideration: the performance of acts of courage in difficult or dangerous circumstances; showing exceptional leadership or personal example; making an outstanding individual contribution to a NATO sponsored programme or activity; or enduring particular hardship or deprivation in the interest of NATO.
