TARIN KOT, Afghanistan – “Spartan” soldiers of 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, officially recognized their presence in Afghanistan with patching ceremonies conducted across Uruzgan province, Dec. 3-5, 2012.
The patching ceremonies were conducted at multiple forward operating bases led by the brigade command team, Col. Douglas C. Cardinale and Command Sgt. Maj. Jefferson Moser, who placed the “Marne Division’s” combat patch on the right sleeve of deployed soldiers supporting the mission.
Battalion commanders, Lt. Col. Neal A. Corson, 2-3 Brigade Troops, and Lt. Col. Wayne Hertel, 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery, traveled from different locations to present combat patches to their soldiers.
The right shoulder sleeve insignia identifies that an U.S. service member has deployed to a combat zone. Marne soldiers who received the combat patch can now claim a status that few can - as a combat veteran, symbolizing a lasting commitment and selfless service in defending our nation’s freedom.
“Thank you for your service. Only a few Americans have earned this patch that you received today, wear it proud,” Cardinale said.
