SOCORRO, Texas - Soldiers from the Directorate of Mobilization and Deployment were invited to attend a Thanksgiving Luncheon for the students and their families at Hueco Elementary School in Soccorro, Texas, Nov. 15.
The traditional meal included turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and a small fruit salad. The children provided entertainment with a small performance in which they all danced to the "Wobble" throughout the cafeteria.
After lunch the Soldiers stayed and enjoyed plaing with the children during recess. They participated in slide races, tag, question and answer time and a demonstration on how to perform the proper Army-standard push up.
The youngsters made nick names for a few of the Soldiers, calling Lt. Col. Larry Bishop of DoMaD's S-3 "Mr. Funny Guy." A small group of girls ran around collecting the Soldiers' autographs, while boys ran and caught soccer balls kicked in the air by Capt. Robert C. Larson and Sgt. Michael Shibley.
Once recess was over, the children returned to class and the eight soldiers returned to Fort Bliss with full stomaches and a taste of holiday cheer.
