ATLANTA - Two recent visits to Defense Contract Management Agency Atlanta provided valuable resourcing recommendations to ensure the contract management office continues to successfully carry out its mission. The staff assistance visits, or SAVs, were conducted by personnel from the agency’s Software Engineering and Acquisition Management Center.
“This real, in-depth help from a headquarters organization is commendable,” said Eddie Bridges, DCMA Atlanta engineering and manufacturing group leader.
In July, Gary Gumpright, SEAM Center engineer, and John Eget, SEAM Center Orlando hub acting lead, visited three contractors in the Charleston, S.C., area. Joined by a cross-functional team from DCMA Atlanta, they met with program managers and software engineers at the contractor sites. There they gave staffing recommendations necessary to provide software surveillance for prime contracts and delegated work at the contractors.
DCMA Atlanta was represented by Bridges; Marie Lussier, program integrator; and Duhee Lee, engineer. In addition, Lou Gentile, quality director; Butch Darrow, quality supervisor; Ken Gregory, lead quality assurance specialist; and Charleston-area QASs Roland Dimery, Jim Garwood, Andy Hirak and Rob Klopp provided input on quality assurance issues. Harold Chaney, acting DCMA Atlanta deputy director, provided command-level participation.
In October, Eget visited the DCMA Atlanta office to review software requirements for contractors in the Atlanta and Warner Robins areas. He was joined by Lee and Mike Zalants, DCMA Atlanta engineering and program integration team leader, during meetings with the software engineering team at the CMO’s largest contractor. The meeting gave insight into the company’s software development activities, allowing Eget to provide recommendations on DCMA software resourcing for the contractor.
With the assistance of Shane Jackson, DCMA Atlanta, North Georgia team lead QAS, Eget recommended software resourcing for other Georgia contractors as well. Eget’s out brief included participation from Vivian Hill, DCMA Atlanta director, as well as Chaney, Bridges and Gentile.
DCMA Atlanta will use the SEAM Center recommendations when providing surveillance of software development and embedded software at Georgia and South Carolina contractors.
“The SEAM Center expertise and input have been extremely valuable in assessing the scope and complexity of DCMA Atlanta software workload and defining the resources required to cover it,” said Bridges. “It’s helping us develop initial surveillance plans and training plans for the personnel initially reassigned to cover the work. It’s also helping to obtain the resources necessary to fully perform compliant surveillance."
