MAYPORT, Fla. – Information Systems Technician (IT) 1st Class Brooks Boatwright, a native of San Diego, currently serves as an instructor at Information Warfare Training Command Virginia Beach (IWTCVB) Learning Site Mayport, Florida.
Boatwright enlisted in the Navy in May 2005. Following boot camp, he attended IT “A” School before reporting to the amphibious transport dock USS San Antonio (LPD 17). He served aboard the ship during its commissioning in 2006. While aboard, he provided technical support and maintenance of the ship’s information systems such as local area networks (LAN), tracked and corrected information assurance security issues and provided leadership with accurate assessments of network and security performance.
At IWTCVB Learning Site Mayport, Boatwright is responsible for preparing Sailors, coast gaurdsmen and Marines with the skills required to maintain and operate their command’s vaults as Key Management Infrastructure Operating Account Managers (KOAM). A KOAM is responsible for maintaining and ordering cryptographic keys for a command, in order to ensure communications and data signals are encrypted.
“Serving in the Navy has been an incredible experience that I wouldn’t change for the world,” said Boatwright. “I have seen so many different countries and have met so many great people from all walks of life, which has helped shaped me into the man I am today.”
Boatwright’s family has a history of military service, and he says he is honored to carry on the family tradition.
“My grandfather served in the Navy on a Landing Craft Support-Large in the Pacific during WWII. My father is a retired Captain who did 30 years flying helicopters for the Navy and my wife served 14 years in the Navy as an Operations Specialist,” said Boatwright. “It’s a great honor to serve in the world’s greatest Navy, with all of its tradition and the respect it carries around the world.”
