The DVIDS Journalist of the Month for April, Petty Officer 1st Class Peter D. Blair, covered the U.S. military’s continued search efforts for the Malaysian airlines Flight MH370. Specifically, Blair’s video of the U.S. Navy’s Bluefin-21 aired thousands of times.<br /> <br />
Bluefin-21 is an Artemis autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). Blair’s video showed the AUV on the deck aboard the Royal Australian Navy Australian Defense Vessel (ADV) Ocean Shield. Joint Task Force 658 was supporting Operation Southern Indian Ocean, searching for the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370. <br /> <br />
The video, which was downloaded 33 times, aired more than 9,740 times. Some of the media that aired Blair’s video include CNN, HLN, France 5, BBC Arabic, Voice of America, SKY News Australia, Canal 24 Horas, ITV 1 London, TV4 Sweden, N24, Fuji TV, KNSD-TV in San Diego and many more. As a result, Blair ranked at the top of the list of videographers for the number of video detections and also ranked the highest for the number of media placements across all categories of journalists in April. <br /> <br />
Like Blair’s video, media used Blair’s images of the Bluefin-21 in their coverage of the search for Flight MH370. The long list of local, national and international media that used his images in April include NBC News; BBC News; Yahoo News; Bloomberg Television; Euro News; Stars and Stripes and New York Times. <br /> <br />
Blair’s timely video and images helped to illustrate some of the assistance the U.S. military provided during the search for Flight MH370. Without Blair’s work, the U.S. Navy’s Bluefin-21 may not have received the same level of international media coverage. The number of media placements he was able to accumulate with just a few products made him stand out further as the April Journalist of the Month. <br /> <br />
