Douglas H Stutz assumed duties as Public Affairs Officer at Naval Hospital Bremerton (NHB) in May 2006. As PAO, he conducts, oversees and supports ongoing and overlapping public affairs programs with NHB’s three Branch Health Clinics at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Naval Base Kitsap Bangor and Naval Station Everett. His responsibilities also include external and internal communication as well as with community relations programs for the command. The ever-changing dynamic of Navy Medicine has Mr. Stutz actively providing public affairs support to NHB’s and Navy Medicine in conjunction with the Defense Health Agency Military Health System and Puget Sound Military Health System .
Mr. Stutz is also very active in Community Relation projects throughout the greater Kitsap Peninsula and Puget Sound area, and has spearheaded one of the Navy Medicine’s top news and press release programs to consistently keep staff as well as beneficiaries informed with timely, concise and accurate information on many aspects of NHB AND Navy Medicine.
Mr. Stutz served 23 years on active-duty as a Navy Chief Journalist (Enlisted Warfare Specialist), retiring in June 2005 from USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) as PAO Leading Chief Petty Officer, a tour that culminated supporting Operation Unified Assistance tsunami relief effort in Banda Aceh province, Sumatra, Indonesia. Prior to that, he was LCPO of Navy Region Southwest Public Affairs Office.
He deployed 10 times, including several Individual Augmentee assignments, notably to Prince Sultan Air Base, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) from 2002 to 2003 as the Navy PAO representative assigned to Joint Task Force Southwest Asia (JTF-SWA), Combined Air Operation Center, that included stints at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, Karsi-Khanabad, Uzbekistan, and Ganci Air Base, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; In 2001 with JTF-SWA at Eskan Village, KSA, and Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base, Kuwait; with Commander Sixth Fleet to the Balkans and southern Italy in 1999 to support NATO operations in Kosovo, Operation Allied Harbor; two deployments to the Persian Gulf, Kuwait, and Qatar attached to amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5) from 1995 to 1998; and stationed at Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, Monterey, Calif. from 1992 to 1994. Other assignments include USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and USS Lynde McCormick (DDG 8).
Mr. Stutz’s personal awards from active duty include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achieve Medal (four awards), plus numerous campaign and unit designations.
Mr. Stutz received his Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations Management from National University, San Diego, Calif. in 2002.
