Marine Assists Military Journalists with HD Transition<br />
Although the November Journalist of the Month does not mirror past nominees, Staff Sgt. Phillip Grondin’s tenacity has helped pave the way for his journalist colleagues to submit high definition content to DVIDS. <br />
Grondin, who is serving with Regional Command Southwest in Afghanistan, has really taken the lead in using the Streambox HD encoding software kit to transmit HD video using the existing transmitters. Grondin has demonstrated that he is willing to overcome technical challenges and get them resolved to complete the mission and ultimately to make it easier for his colleagues in the future. <br />
With more military journalists being issued HD cameras, a method to transmit HD video has become increasingly important. The Streambox method, partially in thanks to Grondin’s testing, now provides a solution to maintaining HD quality when transmitting HD video to DVIDS. When he ran into the issues during testing, Grondin didn’t give up. He called the customer support of his equipment manufactures to get the answers he needed to complete successful testing. Grondin had to overcome technical issues that arose because the Streambox kit was designed to support Army-issued equipment. He had to adapt it to work with Marine-issued equipment.<br />
Because the Streambox system is new, some are apprehensive to use it but not Grondin. He jumped into the technology guns blazing. Media outlets are increasingly clamoring for HD content and Grondin is the leading the charge to help the military fill the media’s requests going forward. <br />
After he mastered the process, he wrote a detailed report on solutions to the problems he encountered and distributed it to his Marine comrades so they could learn from his experience. <br />
