Different audiences require different video production, and Petty Officer 1st Class Lizandra Murray successfully communicates to different audiences by providing video B-roll, packages and “look lives.” The American Forces Network Afghanistan journalist also converts her stories into audio packages allowing her to reach a second medium. While internal media may be more interested in video packages and newscasts, external media prefer to use the video B-roll to produce their own news story. In this case, Murray’s video packages and look lives can be excellent sources of background information for the external media to know what is transpiring in the video. The subjects of Murray’s video and audio packages help spotlight her as a Journalist of the Month. Her story “Countering Taliban Through Radio” was submitted as video B-roll and a long and short video package, and it gave a different look at what is being done to combat the Taliban off the battlefield. She continued to cover breaking stories into September with the following videos: “Afghan Air Force Ballot Pick Up,” “Look Live: 9 Killed in Helo Crash,” and “Afghan Ballot Pick up.” Many of Murray’s videos were sent to multiple local, national and international media outlets because the videos covered newsworthy subjects. She does not appear to do sporadic reporting on news in Afghanistan, but rather submits continuously throughout the month. This makes her a more reliable journalist that provides an array of content. Her news subjects, formatting and the number of news products she submits combine to make her DVIDS pick for journalist of the month. show less
