The January Journalist of the Month shot supporting video related to the search for a missing aircraft. Petty Officer 2nd Class Antonio Turretto Ramos’ work, which was used by media around the world, covered the U.S. Navy’s help with the Indonesian-led search effort to locate AirAsia Flight QZ8501. <br /> <br /> Turretto Ramos documented search operations aboard the USS Fort Worth (LCS3). Some of the footage featured U.S. Navy divers deploying and discussing the capabilities of a Tow Fish side scan sonar system. He also shot aerial footage of the littoral combat ship Fort Worth and guided missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102). <br /> <br /> "The U.S. Navy's ability to support the AirAsia search highlights the importance of operating forward in Southeast Asia," said Capt. Fred Kacher, Destroyer Squadron 7 commodore and tactical commander of Fort Worth and USS Sampson (DDG 102) during the search. "Through MC2's work, the American public was given the chance to witness the extraordinary effort our sailors put forth to bring closure to the families affected by this tragedy." <br /> <br /> Turretto Ramos’ videos were downloaded 144 times and were used by media outlets more than 1,450 times in January. Among all the military journalists who submitted to DVIDS during the month, Turretto Ramos’ videos were used by media outlets almost three times more than the next closest broadcaster. His videos were also viewed 2,030 times ranking him in the top 10 of military journalists for the number of video views in January. <br /> <br /> "MC2 Turretto was an absolutely integral part of the Navy's response to the AirAsia crash. During the high-tempo, high-demand operation, he kept us ahead of media demands and provided exceptional products that told the Navy's story," said Lt. Lauren Cole, acting 7th Fleet PAO during the AirAsia search. "He is an exceptional professional communicator and was a pillar in the success of the operation." <br /> <br /> Some of the international media that used Turretto Ramos’ footage includes Yonhap News TV, South Korea’s largest news agency; Channel News Asia; Al Hadath (UAE); Al Arabiyah; Yemen TV; NovaTV Czech; MTV3 Finland; Canal 24 Horas; Al Jazeera International; Channel 10 Australia; and TVS1 Slovenia. From Seattle and Los Angeles to Atlanta, Honolulu, Chicago and West Palm Beach, Fla., domestic U.S. outlets also widely aired his footage. <br /> <br /> "MC2 Turretto has worked tirelessly to tell the Fort Worth story not only during the search for AirAsia Flight QZ8501, but throughout our entire deployment, and I am incredibly proud of the work he has done," said Cmdr.
