DVIDS Journalist the Month and 115th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment broadcaster Spc. Tianna Waite served up more media hits than any other deployed journalist in December.
Waite jumped out in front of other journalists with one raw video: "Lightning Serves up Christmas." This single video ran more than 500 times and produced more than 100 as aired media placements. A few of the media that ran the video include CNN, NY1, Headline News, WHDH-TV in Boston, WEAR-TV in Pensacola, FL, WGCL-TV in Atlanta and many more.
Why was the single video so popular? It included timely raw video of service members in Afghanistan celebrating Christmas. Instead of submitting the video the day after Christmas or even late in the day for the East Coast, the video was published on DVIDS by 9 a.m. E.D.T. This gave the East Coast based media all day to run the video, and they did.
In addition to Waite's standout video for media placements, her videos in December were viewed more than 1,200 times.
Her non-holiday themed videos cover the training of Afghans. Many of her videos feature interviews with either U.S. troops or Afghans. Her video interviews in "Afghans Take Flight" show both perspectives. The U.S. Commander advising the Afghan Air Force and an Afghan Pilot both talk about the progress with Afghan Aviation over the last six months.
"Spc. Tianna Waite is relatively new to the world of broadcasting, but she has made her voice heard. She has set the standard of tenacious effort to find and tell the military story from the ground up," said Sgt. 1st Class Kevin Hartman, broadcast NCOIC for the 115th MPAD. "Spc. Waite's work has continually improved and made a large impact to keep troop morale up and our family and friends back home informed. We are very excited to see where she takes her skills from here." show less
