The DVIDS Journalist of the Month for December used her pen and camera to document the U.S. military’s Operation United Assistance in Liberia. Sgt. Ange Desinor deployed with the 13th Public Affairs Detachment to cover the Ebola response—a hot topic for the media and public.

Desinor’s photos were run by media more than any other photographer who submitted to DVIDS in December. Her news articles were viewed more than 1,600 times during the month.

"Sgt. Ange Desinor is a highly-motivated military journalist whose will to succeed enabled her to make an immediate and critical impact in the 36th Engineer Brigade's mission during Operation United Assistance," said Sgt. 1st Class Joel Gibson, the 13th Public Affairs Detachment NCOIC.

Some of the local media that ran her photos and articles include the Patriot-News and Lewiston Sentinel in Pennsylvania; KDH News and Temple Daily Telegram in Texas; Gainesville Sun in Florida; Bangor Daily News in Maine and Nashville Public Radio in Tennessee. Stars and Stripes, Military.com and Breitbart.com were among the national media that featured Desinor’s work.

Desinor’s reporting was also popular with the Facebook community, receiving a couple of thousand “likes.” One of her most popular news articles covered U.S. soldiers helping members of the armed forces of Liberia to build an Ebola treatment unit in Gbediah, Liberia.

The timeliness of Desinor’s news articles and photos combined with the service members and aspects of the OUA mission featured increased interest in her reporting and ultimately made her stand out as the DVIDS Journalist of the Month.

"I first worked with Sgt. Desinor in the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, before she was even a public affairs journalist. Since that time, she has exhibited an enthusiasm for improving herself and her craft constantly,” said Capt. Steven Modugno, the 13th PAD commander. “Her time in support of Operation United Assistance, Africa has given her a venue to show just how far she can go while supporting the 36th Engineer Brigade. I look forward to seeing how much further she will go in the career field."
