Senior Master Sergeant John T. Winn serves and an Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Public Affairs Superintendent, Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs office, Pentagon. He provides communication, advice and planning support for Air Force priorities, issues and initiatives. Additionally, he evaluates the effectiveness of communication products and plans for future plans and operations.
SMSgt Winn entered active duty in June 2000 and attended Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. From there, he completed initial skills training as a Munitions Systems Specialist. In 2007, he deployed to Balad Air Base, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2010, he transferred from active duty to the Idaho Air National Guard.
In 2016, SMSgt Winn deployed to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey in support of Operation Inherent Resolve as NCOIC of Conventional Munitions Maintenance, executing one of the largest munitions taskings in recent history. Upon his return from deployment, SMSgt Winn graduated with an M.S. in Communications from Purdue University. In 2018, he transferred to the Utah Air National Guard where he participated in Exercise African Lion in 2019 with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, in the Kingdom of Morocco. In 2019, SMSgt Winn was selected as the Utah Air National Guard’s NCO of the Year. Prior to his current assignment, SMSgt Winn was the superintendent of Public Affairs, 151st Air Refueling Wing, Utah Air National Guard, Salt Lake City, Utah.
