Currently serving as the Editor at US Army Garrison Fort Campbell since April 2023, she has been instrumental in maintaining a strong brand image through effective coordination and oversight of various communication channels.
Prior to her current role, Kayla served as the Communication Director at the Community Church of Hendersonville, starting in February 2022. In this capacity, she provided leadership to a team of 16 church staff/lay leaders, guiding them on communication strategies, crisis communication plans, and designing graphic elements for church services and events. She played a crucial role in managing and developing content across multiple communication channels, including the church's website, bulletins, newsletter, and social media. Additionally, Kayla showcased her creativity by conceptualizing, shooting, and editing promotional videos for the church.
Kayla's journey includes a significant chapter in the United States Navy, where she served as a Mass Communication Specialist. From September 2018 to October 2021, she was stationed in Honolulu, HI, at Defense Media Activity. There, she supervised and trained a team of communicators, strategically communicating multi-media products to inform and educate U.S. Indo-Pacific Command’s regional and national audiences.
Prior to her assignment in Hawaii, Kayla served as a Mass Communication Specialist at Navy Public Affairs Support Element in Norfolk, VA, from June 2016 to September 2018. She excelled in training and supervising a large team of communicators, leading impactful projects during the NAS Oceana Air Show and contributing significantly to the global media distribution efforts of the command.
Kayla's dedication to mass communication took root during her time at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA, from March 2013 to June 2016. There, she served as the assistant public affairs officer, overseeing operations and providing logistical support to the Fleet. Her leadership contributed to the Jet Observer newspaper receiving the Russell Egnor Navy Media Award for best civilian publication three years in a row.
Her journey began with the United States Navy on the USS Abraham Lincoln, where she served as a Mass Communication Specialist from July 2012 to March 2013. In this role, Kayla showcased her writing and photography skills, earning customer satisfaction for her studio still photography work and contributing to the ship's award-winning newspaper.
Kayla holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Southern New Hampshire University, earned in June 2021. She is 12 credits away from obtaining her Master's in Corporate Communication at Austin Peay State University.
