Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Michael B. Zingaro is a native of Syracuse, New York. He enlisted in the Navy in March 2015 and graduated from Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, in May 2015. Immediately following graduation, he reported to Mass Communication Specialist training at the Defense Information School at Fort Meade, Maryland.
In February 2016, Petty Officer Zingaro completed the Basic Mass Communication Specialist Course. Upon completion of training, he received orders to USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77).
During his time onboard CVN 77, he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf. He was assigned as the design work center supervisor, ensuring command and fleet messaging is disseminated to the crew in an easily-digested format. He served as editor to the command’s flagship publication, “The Avenger,” in addition to being the leading petty officer for the ship’s cruisebook team. His collateral duties included Departmental Command Fitness Leader, Medical Training Team Member, Watchbill Section Coordinator and Security Manager. While onboard, he advanced to petty officer 3rd and petty officer 2nd class, and he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, and Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist designations.
Petty Officer Zingaro attended the Military Visual Journalism Program at Syracuse University in June 2018. He studied advanced photojournalism alongside members from all military branches.
Upon completion of Syracuse program in May of 2019, he reported to Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMSUBPAC) located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, where he is currently stationed.
At COMSUBPAC he is the flag MC and creative director for the five commands that fall under the type commander. His responsibilities include the review and dissemination of all products, as well as ensuring that the 27 Sailors stationed at the various commands are properly manned, trained, and equipped.
He is authorized to wear the: Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), Navy Unit Citation, Battle Efficiency (“E”) Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism (Expeditionary) Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Ribbon, Arctic Service Ribbon, and Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon.
