Corporal Angelina R. Sara was born in San Antonio, Texas, Nov. 16, 1997 and graduated from Cornerstone Christian Schools in 2016. She enlisted in the Marine Corps as a contract Private First Class on Nov. 4, 2019 and arrived at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Following her graduation from the 4th Recruit Training Battalion in April 2020, she attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at School of Infantry East, Camp Lejune, North Carolina. Upon graduating MCT in May 2020, she reported to Aviation Maintenance Squadron 2, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida for Air Traffic Control School, where she was promoted to Lance Corporal in August 2020.
She was reclassed to Communication Strategies & Operations, MOS 4500 and reported to Marine Detachment, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, in Sept. 2020 and completed her military occupational specialty school at Defense Information School (DINFOS). There she completed the MOS courses Mass Communication Foundations Course in April 2021 and Visual Documentation Course in June 2021, obtaining the MOS 4541, Combat Photographer. After completing her MOS education at DINFOS, she received orders to American Forces Network (AFN) Iwakuni, Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan.
While at AFN Iwakuni, she was assigned to the Radio Broadcast Section as a morning and afternoon Radio DJ, she then returned to DINFOS for Mass Communication Foundations Broadcast Journalism Course and was distinguished as the course Honor Graduate in June 2022. She returned to AFN Iwakuni transferred to the News/Video Production Section and promoted to Corporal in October 2022.
While stationed at AFN Iwakuni, she completed various TDY assignments in support of:
Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 171 for Kamoshika Wrath 23-1 over the course of 2 weeks in Hiroshima, Japan.
Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron (VMGR) 152 over the course of 3 weeks for Operation Toys for Tots at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.
MWSS-171 and MWSS-172 over the course of 5 weeks for the Cobra Gold 23 at Rayong, Kingdom of Thailand.
MWSS-171 for 3 over the course of 3 weeks for Resolute Dragon 23 in Kyushu, Japan.
MWSS-171 and Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121 over the course of 7 weeks for South Korea Deployment for Training at Gyeonggido and Korea Flying Training 24 at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea.
Corporal Angelina Sara has received (35) letters of appreciation, totaling 245.5 hours of volunteer work. She continues to participate in various activities around base and continues to volunteer her personal time on, off and around the air station. Her personal decorations include the Joint Service Meritorious Unit Award, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, (3) Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Meritorious Mast, (35) LOA’s and the 2023 Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
