Staff Sgt. Samuel Kroll enlisted into the North Dakota Army National Guard in 2014. His primary military occupational specialty is as a musician for the 188th Army Band in Fargo, North Dakota. Kroll found his love of full-time service after being activated in response to the Dakota Access Pipeline civil unrest mission. After activation, he became a human resources technician and later a recruiting aide for the NDARNG Recruiting and Retention Battalion for 2 years. He then worked for 68th Troop Command as a human resources specialist for 2 years. During his time at 68th Troop Command, he was the non-commissioned officer in charge for a section of eight human resource specialists for over 250 Soldiers on the COVID-19 mission. He then took on roles as the unit admin for the 116th Public Affairs Detachment, 117th Cyber Protection team and 68th Troop Command HHD. After meeting members of the public affairs team, he saw a job announcement for a photographer position. Staff Sgt. Kroll applied and was hired as the photographer for the North Dakota National Guard’s Visual Information team. He presently still holds this position and title within the Visual Information team.
