USACE Civil Works research and development contributes to the strength of the nation by providing innovative and environmentally sustainable solutions to the nation’s water resources challenges in navigation, flood and coastal risk reduction, and the environment. R&D also provides technologies to advance USACE hydropower and water supply missions. Our state-of-the-art technologies help improve the safety and resiliency of communities and infrastructure and help American goods compete in the global marketplace.
USACE R&D helps the Corps manage existing water resources infrastructure sustainably, in the face of expected climate change, land use change, invasive and nuisance species, demographic shifts, and aging infrastructure, to meet the needs of future generations. The Civil Works Value to the Nation book highlights examples of how R&D improves the design, assessment, operation, maintenance and rehabilitation of our nation’s water resources infrastructure, mitigates climate change and improves water resilience, along with the broadening benefits of research in the area of environmental justice.
