The Navy Week Kansas City will host a "Doing Business with the DON" Small Business Workshop on November 13, featuring Mr. David Walz as the keynote speaker. The SBA has awarded $3 million in grants through its cybersecurity pilot program, aimed at helping small businesses enhance their cybersecurity infrastructure. The Department of Defense's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program is set to become effective on December 16, 2024, ensuring that contractors implement necessary security measures. NAVSEA’s Welding Summit will take place on October 29-30 in Bethesda, MD, focusing on industry standards for Navy surface ship repair. The DON PEO MLB Small Business Industry Day on October 30 will provide opportunities for collaboration between small businesses and the Navy’s IT programs. Several upcoming events, including the NAVFAC Southeast Industry Day and CCAP Industry Days at NAWCWD 2025, will offer networking and contracting opportunities for industry partners with the Navy.  less

The Navy Week Galveston Small Business Workshop will take place on October 24 at MarMo Plaza in Galveston, TX. This "Doing Business with the DON" workshop is a collaboration with the University of Houston APEX Accelerator, U.S. SBA, Galveston County SBDC, and the Houston Regional Veteran’s Chamber of Commerce. Keynote speaker Ms. Mercedes Thurston from the DON OSBP will provide valuable insights into subcontracting programs. San Francisco Fleet Week hosted a successful small business event on October 10, organized in partnership with the DON and SBA. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro shared valuable insights during the event. The Carderock Division held an Industry Day virtually on October 9, followed by an in-person symposium, focusing on expanding small business partnerships and fostering innovation. At AUSA 2024, the DON OSBP participated in key panels discussing small business initiatives and the Mentor-Protégé Program, featuring meaningful discussions led by industry leaders and Department of Defense representatives. The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) final rule has been published, streamlining cybersecurity requirements for defense contractors by reducing assessment levels from five to three. Upcoming events include Navy Week Kansas City on November 13, featuring a small business workshop with keynote speaker Mr. David Walz from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, the NAVAIR General Information Session on October 21 discussing how to do business with NAVAIR via Microsoft Teams, and the AN/SLQ-25E “NIXIE” Industry Day on October 22, a technical discussion event in Washington, D.C.  less

Navy Week Las Vegas will feature the "Doing Business with the DON" workshop on October 18 from 7:30 AM to 12 PM, hosted by the Nevada APEX Accelerator and partners. Keynote speaker: Ms. Arveice Washington, Director of the DON OSBP. Additional sessions will include representatives from GOED, SBA, SBDC, SCORE, and SBIR/STTR programs. The Biden-Harris Administration has announced a new rule for the SBA 504 Loan Program, aimed at lowering costs for small businesses by making it easier to refinance debt and reduce payments. This follows a Federal Reserve rate cut, which also lowers borrowing costs for businesses utilizing SBA 7(a) loans. New federal guidance from the White House outlines steps for U.S. agencies to safely and responsibly acquire AI solutions. Agencies are instructed to manage risks, promote competition, and share information within the executive branch. Navy Week Galveston will host the "Doing Business with the DON" workshop on October 24, organized by the University of Houston APEX Accelerator and partners. Navy Week Kansas City will feature the "Doing Business with the DON" workshop on November 13, organized by the Missouri APEX Accelerator and partners. Keynote speaker: Mr. David Walz, Deputy for Small Business Program at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division. NUWC Division Keyport will hold industry engagement sessions on October 30, November 20, and December 18, providing an overview of doing business with the Command, including set-aside opportunities. Sessions will be available in-person and virtually. NAVWAR PEO MLB is hosting an Industry Day on October 18 in McLean, VA, to discuss the ERP+ acquisition strategy. Registration is required by October 11. NUWCDIVNPT will hold an Industry Day on October 22 in Washington, DC, to discuss the AN/SLQ-25E "NIXIE" requirements. Pre-registration is required by October 16. NAVSUP OSBP and Rocco Siravo from NAVSUP FLC Norfolk have been recognized for their excellence in promoting competition and innovation, with NAVSUP OSBP receiving the Secretary’s Cup Award. NAWCAD Pax has released the FY24 Long Range Acquisition Estimate, with updates scheduled to be made quarterly.  less

The Biden-Harris Administration has introduced a new SBA 504 Loan Program rule aimed at reducing costs and increasing access to affordable capital for small businesses. In preparation for Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) 2.0 compliance, the DLA is automating its contracting systems. Navy Week Galveston will feature a small business workshop on October 24, led by Ms. Mercedes Thurston, Subcontracting Program Manager for the DON OSBP. Navy Week Kansas City will host a workshop on November 13, featuring Mr. David Walz from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Keyport. Various upcoming industry events in October will include Navy and defense-related workshops focused on small business opportunities and cybersecurity. The Welding Summit, hosted by NAVSEA on October 29-30, will concentrate on MIL-STD-1689 and surface ship repair. A DON Mentor-Protégé Visit took place on September 26, 2024, where the DON OSBP and Axiom (Protégé) held a Program Management Review at i3’s headquarters in Huntsville, AL. The Blue Tech Demo Day on August 29, 2024, featured over 30 tech companies showcasing innovations at the NUWC Division Newport and Sail Newport event, fostering collaboration between small businesses and DoD stakeholders.  less

The Department of the Navy Office of Small Business Programs (DON OSBP) is continuing its virtual Office Hours Series on September 24, featuring a Q&A session with Katelyn Rigle from the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA). This session provides an opportunity to ask questions and gain insights into DCAA processes, following the recent 2024 DON Gold Coast Expo. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti has released the 2024 Navigation Plan (NAVPLAN), which focuses on readiness for potential conflict with the People's Republic of China by 2027. The plan emphasizes enhancing long-term advantages through strategic initiatives such as "Project 33." The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has revised its size standards methodology, clarifying how it establishes and reviews small business size standards. This update is crucial for the upcoming third five-year review of size standards. Additionally, SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzmán has significantly increased SBA-backed loans to Latino-owned, Black-owned, and women-owned small businesses, enhancing the SBA’s engagement with business owners through improved technology and education. Upcoming events include Navy Week Las Vegas on October 18 and Navy Week Galveston on October 24, where the DON OSBP will host workshops and networking sessions for small businesses. The NUWC Division, Keyport will also hold its "Wednesday with the Deputy for Small Business" event, providing industry partners with insights into doing business with the Command.
