The Helmand Governor's Media Center reported that the provincial governor of Helmand province, Mohammad Gulab Mangal, participated in a ceremonial wheat harvest in the Nad-e-Ali district of Helmand province, Afghanistan, May 26. Mangal encouraged farmers to grow legal crops, such as wheat and cotton, instead of poppy, which is used to manufacture opium.

An insurgent commander was arrested in Helmand on Monday 21 May,
according to the Helmand Governor’s Media Centre.
The insurgent commander named Mohammad Jan was arrested as a result of
an Afghan National Army (ANA) special operation in the Sangin district
of Helmand on Monday evening.
When captured he was in found to be in possession of 57 kilos of
heroin, 75 kilos of Cannabis, 30 kilos of poppy plants, eight boxes of
rounds, one machine gun, one rifle, sixty machine gun magazines , a
pair of binoculars, one pistol with a hundred rounds, two satellite
mobile phones and ancillaries.
No shots were fire during the operation and the insurgent commander is
now under arrest with local authorities.
