U.S. Army Soldiers with Task Force Iron Mule, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border, U.S. Border Patrol agents and construction contractors conduct a sling load operation to move and prepare an ISU-90 container using a U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook helicopter assigned to 3rd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, from Deming, N.M. to a mountaintop near Kilmer Peak, N.M., April 21, 2026. A solar and gas-powered radio tower was constructed to enhance U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) communications in remote areas along the U.S. southern border. U.S. Northern Command collaborates closely with the Department of Homeland Security and CBP within defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities that help protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
