U.S. Marines with 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, and U.S. Army soldiers with 3-501st Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Armored Division, Combat Aviation Brigade, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, utilize a UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter during a reconnaissance mission in El Cajon, California, June 7, 2026. The mission provided the soldiers and Marines an opportunity to strengthen joint partnerships by utilizing air assets for rapid infiltration and exfiltration while conducting aerial reconnaissance. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
