Group & individual hometown Thanksgiving shoutouts from members of Headquarters Battery, 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Battalion (Patriot) deployed along NATO's eastern flank in Slovakia.
Elements from Headquarters and Bravo Battery, 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment deployed to Slovakia from its home base in Baumholder, Germany in April 2022. Our mission to reinforce NATO’s air defenses in Slovakia arose after the Slovak government generously donated its S300 air defense system to the defense of Ukraine.
In July 2022 Bravo Battery was officially transferred to NATO’s authority, joining the German and Dutch Patriot units also arrayed in Slovakia as part of NATO’s air shielding mission. NATO will fight to defend our territory as an Alliance, not as individual nations, which makes this transfer of authority an essential step in our mutual defense. This deployment and our numerous others along the Eastern flank in support of NATO send a clear message that the United States is committed to deterring aggression, and defending Allied forces, and NATO territory including the skies.
