CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Elements of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit began training with their counterparts from Mexican forces and Canadian Armed Forces for Rim of the Pacific, or RIMPAC, exercise aboard Camp Pendleton, California, June 27, 2018.
Held biennially, RIMPAC is the world’s largest international maritime exercise. RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity and strengthens international maritime partnerships, enhances interoperability, and improves the readiness of participating forces in a wide range of potential operations. The exercise takes place in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.
This year’s exercise includes 25 nations, more than 45 surface ships and submarines, about 200 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel. The 15th MEU takes part in the Southern California portion of RIMPAC and will be training alongside partners from Canada and Mexico.
The training on Camp Pendleton runs from June 27 to July 16 and will include live-fire and maneuver, small-unit urban tactics, scenario-based small unit leadership exercises, and combined arms operations.
For the scope of this exercise, the 15th MEU is providing command and control for 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment; Combat Logistics Battalion 15; and 3rd Amphibious Assault Battalion.
