The Center for Security Forces released the newest version of its mobile app last Friday – the CENSECFOR Toolbox. The app features a wide range of enhancements that place new levels of mastery right at the Sailor’s fingertip.

CENSECFOR worked closely with the U.S. Navy Sea Warrior Program, PMW 240 Mobility, to produce and now release the new version of the mobile app. Like its predecessor, the app is compatible with both the Apple and Android operating systems for mobile devices.

“The new version of the app features two new courses,” said Robert Burgett, who is the learning standards officer at CENSECFOR. “In addition to the original two courses, the app also features the M4A1 Service Rifle Operator and the M500 Service Shotgun Operator courses. These new courses allow Sailors to take all three small arms weapons courses without the use of a common access card.”

The original version of the app debuted in 2017 and featured two weapons courses. They are the M9 Service Pistol Operator course and the Personal Firearms and Safety Guidelines course.

“The basic purpose of the app is to allow Sailors and their dependents to access these courses on-demand outside the conventional demand of a user common access card or CAC,” said Burgett.

When a course is complete, Sailors have the option to not only print their certificate, but they can also send it to update their electronic training jackets.

“We updated the course locations to include a call link that will put Sailors in touch with a specific training site,” said Burgett. “All of the courses we offer are listed and detailed in the app to include pre-requisite information as well as required forms, such as a high-risk screening form.”

The app features a new, more intuitive navigation scheme that allows Sailors to find content and resources with ease.

“With the first version, we were experimenting and weren’t sure what we wanted to do for navigation, so we used a list scheme,” said Burgett. “We now have a welcome screen that features buttons and an image because our trial group preferred the ease of “button-ology” over scrolling through lists.”

Since the app allows users to store courses on their mobile device, they can avoid the difficulties that are common with CAC-enabled sites. Users can take the training at their own pace without the worry of placing an excess drain on their data usage.

The CENSECFOR Toolbox mobile app is available for download in the Navy App Locker as well as Apple’s App Store and on Google Play. Download the app today!

The Center for Security Forces provides specialized training to more than 23,000 students each year. It has 14 training sites that are located across the United States and around the world -- "Where Training Breeds Confidence."
