The spirit of the season was alive and well on Dec. 20, as Kirtland Air Force Base hosted its annual Operation Cookie Drop. This beloved tradition brings the community together to package and deliver cookies to Airmen living in the dorms, providing a sweet taste of home for those unable to travel during the holidays.
A formation of A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, commonly known as āWarthogs,ā arrived at Kirtland Air Force Base Dec. 12, for a brief refueling stop. The aircraft are part of the 357th Fighter Squadron, the āDragonsā, assigned to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, is the only active-duty training squadron for the A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots.
In April 2024, Kirtland Air Force Base achieved a major milestone with the installation of the Global Aircrew Strategic Network Terminal at the 377th Air Base Wing Command Post. This $600 million Nuclear Command, Control, and Communication upgrade modernizes Cold War-era communications equipment, ensuring robust connectivity for nuclear and non-nuclear missions.
