On January 5, a powerful blizzard swept through the region, dumping 16 inches of snow in a 24-hour period in St. Joseph. Despite the severe weather, the 139th Airlift Wing’s mission at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base had to continue. That’s where the 139th Civil Engineer Squadron (CES) stepped in to ensure critical areas remained operational.
The 1438 Multi-Role Bridge Company (MRBC), Missouri Army National Guard, assumed responsibility from the 2225th Multi-Role Bridge Company, Louisiana Army National Guard on Sept. 3, 2013. Their transfer of authority ceremony took place in front of an audience of 100 soldiers from Task Force SAW and Camp Leatherneck. This is a significant transition because 2225th MRBC is the singular bridge company operating in Afghanistan.
The 10th Combat Aviation Brigade/Task Force Falcon welcomed to its formation the 1st Attack/Reconnaissance Battalion, 135th Aviation Regiment, of the Missouri National Guard, during a Transfer of Authority ceremony Aug. 14, at Mazar e Sharif Airfield. Additionally, the 1st Attack/Reconnaissance Battalion, 104th Aviation Regiment of the Pennsylvania National Guard were recognized for their achievements during their 9-month Afghanistan tour.
As the month of October ends and the New Year approaches, Afghan National Security Forces continue to make strides as they take the lead from International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan.
