The command team and special staff of the NCO Leadership Center conducted training, Mar. 17, to address violent extremism, racism and sexual assault and harassment. The training was in line with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austinā€™s Feb. 5 directive to all Department of Defense entities to implement a one-day stand down to combat extremism in the ranks.
The NCO Leadership Center of Excellence held a memorial ceremony, Feb. 5, for Mr. Artez Lamar, a retired command sergeant major and instructor at the Sergeants Major Academy, who passed away on 17 November 2020.
The NCO Leadership Center of Excellence updated the curriculum for the Basic Leader Course, the first professional military education program given to Soldiers in the ranks of corporal and specialist. The new material, which rolled out to the force in October, contains nine lessons covering topics including the Army Body Composition Program, financial readiness, talent management, sexual harassment, and equal opportunity.
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Soldiers in the Sergeant Major Course Class 71 created a video highlighting historical milestones during the Civil Rights Movement. The video, available only to fellow classmates, was designed to foster comradery, teamwork and social progress amongst the Armyā€™s future top enlisted Soldiers, Master Sgt. Peta-Gail Drummond, the observance committee chair, said.
Soldiers eligible for the Master Leader Course have another opportunity to meet the MLC requirements for promotion by attending the Air Force equivalent professional military education program. The Air Force Senior NCO Academy Advanced Leadership Experience course prepares students for senior enlisted NCOs leadership roles in the joint, combined, and inter-agency operating and strategic environments.
While the spread of the coronavirus worldwide has impacted the way U.S. Army operations are conducted, the military and civilian facilitators of the Master Leader Course at the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence have never ceased educating Soldiers. They leveraged technology to continue to provide essential learning opportunities to the Armyā€™s senior NCOs.
The NCO Leadership Center of Excellence held a memorial ceremony for Master Sgt. Claudette N. Williams, a student in the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Course Class 71, Dec. 17. Williams died on Nov. 5 of an ongoing medical condition.
