YOKOSUKA, Japan (December 20, 2024) – The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65) held a change of command ceremony at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Dec. 20, 2024. Cmdr. Richard Mayer relieved Cmdr. Jonathan Hightower as commanding officer during a ceremony on the flight deck surrounded by crew, friends and family.
Members of the Naval Safety Command (NSC) visited the Yokosuka waterfront during the week of December 9, 2024, to engage with the Commander Task Force (CTF) 70 and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15 ships to discuss strategies for empowering Sailors to effectively communicate risk decisions up and down the chain of command to reduce Surface Force mishaps.
Capt. Patrick S. Corrigan turned command of the Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 over to Capt. Brian Kesselring in a change of command ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni on Thursday, Dec. 12.
