In this short animation, you will see an engagement that demonstrates how the Active Layered Theater Ballistic Missile Defense (ALTBMD) capability would work. When a theatre ballistic missile is launched toward an area that NATO wishes to defend, its heat signature is detected by a space-based infrared satellite, and the information is transmitted to a ground station for processing.
