Lieutenant General R. Steven Whitcomb, Commanding General of Third U.S. Army/US Forces Central Command (CENTCOM)/Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC), shows Geraldo Rivera of Fox News three types of vehicle armor from a Forward Repair Activities facility in Kuwait. LTG Whitcomb says this civilian-run, Army Materiel Command facility is responsible for uparmoring humvees and wheeled vehicles that move into Iraq. Says since 2003, the enemy began attacking logistic convoys with improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which prompted the Army to begin expanding capabilities in order to adapt to the fight. Says goal is to not allow Iraqi-bound vehicles to travel without armored protection.
