Package about how Military working dogs from the Royal Australian Air Force are standing guard over Rockhampton airport to provide extra security for the millions of dollars of helicopters, jets and other aircraft currently supporting Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011. Military working dogs ‘Rico’, ‘Tank’ and a kennel-full of others are on duty day and night with their Air Force handlers patrolling the airport aprons, runways and fence lines against intruders. Produced by Raymond Vance. Also available in High Definition.
Like their Air Force handlers, military police dogs undergo stringent selection processes and extensive training. Typically, the Air Force recruits two-year-old German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois dog breeds for service. Handlers and their dogs develop a close working relationship throughout the dogs’ six-to-eight year career.
Exercise Talisman Sabre (11–29 July 2011) is a major bilateral exercise designed to train Australian and United States forces in planning and conducting combined operations in order to improve Australian–US combat readiness and interoperability.
