Package about while Australian and US ships, aircraft and mortar platoons were busy honing their fire power skills on Townshend Island, a team from the US Navy Shock Trauma Platoon, 3rd Medical Battalion, were practising their skills in managing and treating trauma injury and mass casualty management. The team, consisting of an anaesthesiologist and four Hospital Corpsmen have travelled all the way from Okinawa, Japan. They are participating in Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011 and were deployed to the Shoalwater Bay Training Area to ensure the medical wellbeing of all personnel participating in the Joint Live Fire Exercise. The precision and expertise of all personnel participating in the exercise ensured that there were no injuries sustained during the week, so the Trauma Team were able to conduct training in advanced trauma life support. Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011 is a US led, Australian supported bilateral exercise that is aimed at training US and Australian forces in planning and conducting combined operations and improving US-Australian interoperability.
