Package with out titles about how service members assigned to Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa traveled to villages in the Tanga region of Tanzania to provide assistance during a Medical Civil Action Program or MEDCAP. More than 2,100 Tanzanian women and children received medical treatment by Tanzanian medical providers working in partnership with service members during the MEDCAP.
Staff Sergeant Andre Moxley, Preventive Medicine Non-Commissioned Officer:
“We started them with registration and then we moved them to education, which was my part, talking about preventative medicine measures for food borne illnesses, water borne illnesses, HIV and AIDs prevention, and malaria prevention. The other thing that we’re doing is letting them have a chance to speak with the doctors, to do a quick diagnosis of any illnesses that they have and shortly after that they get issued some medications, multivitamins, that we previously packed before the operation.”
    Petty Officer Jeremy Brandt Reporting:
The focus of the MEDCAP was to allow women of childbearing age and children under the age of five to receive enhanced medical care.
Sauma Abdalha, Mother and Female Representative for the Village:
“This is a very important exercise, understanding that the provision of medical services is quite different from urban areas. Health services in rural areas are a bit limited.”
    Petty Officer Jeremy Brandt Reporting:
The MEDCAP was designed to support the Tanzanian Health Initiative, a program that strives to provide quality health for the Tanzanian people.
Staff Sergeant Andre Moxley, Preventative Medical Non-Commissioned Officer:
“It’s been an excellent experience seeing what their needs are and seeing how we can help assist them with their needs as far as getting out to the areas, publication of the information out the different areas and just being there helping them do what they normally do, but providing access that we have.”
    Petty Officer Jeremy Brandt Reporting:
Reporting from Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa I’m Petty Officer Jeremy Brandt. Also available in High Definition.
