Wounded Warriors have made immense sacrifices for our country, and every once in a while, someone special comes along to thank them. This February, the Soldiers’ Angels program made a visit to the Mike O'Callahan Federal Hospital and brought along retired NFL stars Lydell Mitchell, formerly of the Baltimore Colts, and pro football Hall of Famer, Franco Harris, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers, to meet with the Wounded Warriors of Nellis. These gridiron warriors took time out of their day to interact with airmen and their families as well as patients of the Mike O'Callahan Federal Hospital.

(Lydell Mitchell - Former Baltimore Colts RB)
We came to visit the Wounded Warriors. We’ve been doing this for the last four or five years, and you know, it’s really fun when you can come out and put a smile on folks faces, and you know it does a lot for us as well. We enjoy it. You get out and just say thank you for what you guys do, and the tremendous job that you do defending us around the world, and we just wanted to get out and just say hey.

Soldiers’ Angels is a volunteer led, non-profit organization that helps support wounded military members and their families. Each Wounded Warrior has a unique story, but many have yet to be told.

(Franco Harris - Former Pittsburgh Steelers RB)
To hear stories how these guys meet those challenges and find ways to compete everyday is very inspiring, and I think more people need to hear these stories.

After meeting with the Wounded Warriors, the athletes were taken on a tour of the hospital. Along the way, the former NFL stars took time to meet with patients and their families to take pictures and give out hats to promote Super Bowl forty-six. Score one for Nellis!
