IF YOU’VE VISITED JOINT BASE ANDREWS RECENTLY YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT ABOUT THE GATE GUARDS.

THESE GUYS ARE A FEW MEMBERS OF JOINT BASE ANDREWS VERY FIRST ELITE GATE GUARD GROUP.
NARRATOR:
THE ELITE GUARD GOT IT’S START IN 1956 AT THE STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND HEADQUARTERS IN OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, NEBRASKA. WITH THE COLD WAR AT IT’S PEAK GENERAL CURTIS LEMAY DECIDED SOMETHING HAD TO BE DONE TO PROTECT ONE OF OUR NATION’S MOST VITAL BASES FROM ESPIONAGE AND SABOTAGE, THUS BEGAN A COMMAND WIDE SEARCH FOR THE AIR FORCE’S MOST ELITE POLICEMEN.
ROUGHLY FIFTY AIR POLICEMEN WERE CHOSEN, TRAINED, AND OUTFITTED TO FORM DETACHMENT ‘A’ AND THE ELITE GUARD WAS BORN.
NOW, NEARLY SIXTY YEARS LATER JOINT BASE ANDREWS IS CONTINUING THE LEGACY.
