MG Marcia Anderson, the highest-ranking African American female in the military, was presented with the NAACP's 2012 Benjamin L. Hooks Distinguished Service Award at the group's annual conference, held in Houston. Anderson was selected based on her accomplishments in promoting equal opportunity. During her visit to the conference, she participated in military/veteran events, speaking on not just equal opportunity, but also on employment challenges current and former service members experience in the civilian sector.
