Staff Sgt. Sara Weeks introduces us to Petty Officer 2nd Class Jerry Eagle who tells us what Navy E.O.D. is all about. Also available in high definition. This version includes graphic titles.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Eagle:
“Navy E.O.D - we’re explosive ordnance disposal, we jump, dive, we deal with naval ordnance, conventional ordnance. We’ll clear routes for whoever’s Army personnel. If they find an IED we’ll respond to it, you know, deploy our robots out there, make it safe. Check for any secondaries so the convoys can move through and keep personnel and equipment safe. If there’s ordnance out of date we can take it out and blow it up, which we’re doing today. I wouldn’t say it’s the most important job on base but it’s very important. We try to keep convoys and personnel safe. We are first responders if there’s a VBIED (vehicle borne improvised explosive device) at the gate, or a suspect package, we’ll be the first ones once it’s found, to respond to that item or incident. Very versatile, Navy E.O.D. is the only E.O.D. that jumps and dives so our role we can pretty much go anywhere under the water and we can be deployed anywhere. We want to make sure we are ready to respond should anything happen. Not that we want it to, but should anything happen, we’ll be ready for it.”
