On, Oct. 29, three Marines and a Navy hospital corpsman in New York responded to a call from the NYPD for help. First responders and residents were trapped by rising waters and a residential blaze as Hurricane Sandy came ashore. Sgt. Allan D. Donaire, maintenance management chief, a native of Elizabeth, N.J., and Sgt. Jorge S. Negron, communications technician, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., both from 6th Communications Battalion located in Brooklyn, N.Y., recounted the events in an interview Nov. 2.
